Brazil first hosted an F1 grand prix in 1973 at Interlagos. The race moved to Jacarepagua near Rio de Janeiro in the 1980s before returning to Sao Paulo from 1990.

Rio de Janeiro kept F1 for several years until the city couldn’t afford it, ... After the promoter changed, it switched from the Brazilian Grand Prix to the São Paulo Grand Prix in 2021.
