Originally the character of Otto Mann was going to go by the name Otto Mechanic but The Simpsons writers ended up not believing the joke would land for audiences or work the way they hoped.

"The Simpsons" just burned Upstate New York so badly ... and even Syracuse University's Otto the Orange dancing with opioids, lottery tickets and the Lake Placid 1980 Olympics mascot.

Otto comes to stay with the Simpsons and teaches Bart guitar, but enrages Homer along the way. When Homer kicks him out, his rage towards Homer helps him get his license from Patty.
