A teenage lifeguard has been hospitalized after getting impaled by an umbrella at a beach in New Jersey earlier this week.

A four-year-old girl is alive, thanks to actions taken by three teens: Carter Velasco, Brayden McGilbray, and Jadelyn Scheer.

Speaking for the first time Wednesday, 18-year-old Alex said she was trying to tie the broken umbrella down when it was whipped around by the wind.
