SpaceX's Starship conducted its ninth test flight Tuesday evening, successfully surpassing the outcomes of two prior test flights that ended in explosions. However, the company lost control of the spacecraft midway through its journey.

The SpaceX Starship rocket successfully reached the separation stage after launching from Texas on Tuesday, but the booster broke apart on descent and the upper-stage ship went into a spin before breaking up on reentry over the Indian Ocean.
