A Lowcountry company is launching bulletproof and fire-resistant doors as a new safety measure for Lowcountry schools.

It spread to the Lehigh Learning Academy next door. Officials say the school is closed. Authorities say the Red Cross is assisting six tenants who lived in apartments on the second floor.

In discussing the contract award last month, supervisors asked how the county and schools would work together to mutually shape the building’s design, given both are expected to be tenants.
