A large section of a glacier in the Swiss Alps has broken off, resulting in a torrent of ice, mud, and rock that has submerged the majority of a village evacuated earlier this month as a security precaution.

The bodies of five skiers have been found on a glacier above the Swiss resort town of Zermatt, authorities said, and another person was killed following an avalanche in a village north of there.
