A group of Dallas-area families and faith leaders has filed a federal lawsuit seeking to block a new Texas law requiring the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms.

A group of North Texas parents is suing the state and their students' school districts after Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill requiring public schools to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom.

Senate Bill 11, also signed into law by Abbott, institutes time in Texas public schools for students and staff to voluntarily pray. Pew Research Center recently found that 61 percent of adults in Texas reported approving of allowing teachers to lead Christian prayers in the classroom.
