Storms have overwhelmed the state in recent years. On top of the floods, snow is expected soon. Sheets of rain drenched Kentucky in recent days, causing floods that turned roads and neighborhoods into rivers in a part of the country that has been pummeled by severe weather in recent years.

Much of the U.S. faced another round of biting winter weather Sunday, with torrential rains causing intense flooding in Kentucky and resulting in at least four deaths in the Southeast. The Northern Plains faced life-threatening cold, and tornado watches were issued for parts of Georgia and Florida.

If there is any upside to two catastrophic flooding events in Eastern Kentucky in less than three years, it’s that many of the relief agencies know exactly what to do to help people. The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky was a major source of help in 2022,

At least 14 people died in Kentucky over the weekend after the state faced flooding and then a snowstorm. CBS News national reporter Karen Hua has more on the winter storm. Meanwhile, severe floods in West Virginia killed two people and left one person missing.

Flash flooding warnings have been extended in Kentucky as the state remains on high alert after severe weather turned deadly. CBS News' Karen Hua reports.
