For millions of fans of the K-pop band BTS, the date June 14, 2022 is seared into memory. It was the day the band announced that it would be going on hiatus to pursue solo projects.

But experts say their music promotions and concerts fall short of dethroning BTS as the king of K-pop. Blackpink will tour in July, but no group album has come out since 2022.
