KAZAN, Russia (Reuters) - China's Xi Jinping, India's Narendra Modi and some other BRICS leaders discussed the war in Ukraine with President Vladimir Putin as the Kremlin chief chaired a major summit aimed at showing Western attempts to isolate Russia have failed.

India's Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin on the eve of the BRICS summit that he wanted peace in Ukraine and that New Delhi was ready to help achieve a truce to end Europe's deadliest conflict since World War Two.

"The process of forming a multipolar world order is underway, a dynamic and irreversible process," Putin told gathered leaders from countries, including India and China, at the official opening of the summit.
