After entering Sunday's regional final with a 2-0 record, fresh off a big win over Oklahoma, the Tar Heels now face a do-or-die deciding game on Monday after falling to the Sooners 9-5 on Sunday night.

They entered the NCAA Tournament as the No. 2 seed in the Eugene Regional and beat Cal Poly in the first game, 3-2, followed by a 14-4 win over Utah State to qualify for the championship game. They turned around and beat Cal Poly a second time to win the regional. Mason White was the regional MVP. On the season, White has 19 home runs and 70 RBIs.

The Sooners got a strong start from freshman Jaden Barfield, a strong close from Dylan Crooks and plenty of offense to force Monday's winner-take-all showdown with the Tar Heels.

Arizona had been 2-6 in regional games under Chip Hale. The Wildcats are now 5-6 and headed to Super Regionals for the first time since 2021.
