Odom assumed the reigns of the VCU program following two seasons at Utah State that produced a 44-25 record. In 2022-23, he led the Aggies to a 26-9 mark and the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Odom said having former VCU players on his coaching staff in Richmond was critical to all the winning the Rams did. VCU was 52-21 over the last two years and made the NCAA tournament this past March.

VCU coach Ryan Odom was named the next head coach at Virginia, the program announced Saturday. Odom, 50, led VCU to the NCAA Tournament this season in only his second year with the program.
