According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the boy had been at the beach with his family and his father called 911 at about 5:25 p.m. Sunday when he could no longer see his son in the water.

The 15-year-old was holding onto a boogie board in the ocean about a mile from shore when Capt. Ryan Foster with Towboat U.S. spotted him.
