The Milford high school student who spent six days in immigration detention before his release on bail Thursday said his immediate desire is to get back to “regular life,” and high school exams.

The school had its graduation a day after Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Gomes Da Silva while he was heading with teammates to practice. The Brazilian teen was set to perform drums in the school’s band at the June 1 graduation ceremony.

Marcelo Gomes' attorney Robin Nice said he came to the U.S. lawfully from Brazil when he was 7 years old and should not be detained.
