The Cook Islands announced the creation of world's largest marine park at the opening of the Pacific Islands Forum, a vast swathe of ocean almost twice the size of France.

The Cook Islands are 15 little islands scattered across an area of two million sq km, home to 18,000 souls. Oliver Thring visited to find out if it is the world's last perfect island destination.

Below the waters of the Cook Islands, population 15,000, lie minerals used to power electric cars. Extracting them could bring riches, but many say it’s a bad idea.
