Late last month, Rockstar Games announced that GTA 5 would be getting a huge free update for all players on PC, bringing the game up to the standard of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the games and sprinkling in a few additions just for PC players. Now, that upgrade is live for all players, and upgrading is quick and easy.

For those who already own GTA 5 on PC, the update is available for free. Players can easily migrate their progress from Story Mode and GTA Online to the enhanced version. Newcomers purchasing the game will receive both the enhanced and original versions (GTA 5 Legacy).

Grand Theft Auto 5's long-awaited enhanced upgrade on PC is finally out now, having released on March 4 through Steam and the Rockstar Games Launcher. On Steam, the game has a "mixed" aggregate review rating, with some user reviews mentioning that some chat functionality has apparently been removed.

GTA Online is about to get heaps better on PC when the GTA 5 Enhanced Edition update drops, delivering some massive changes to performance and visual fidelity.

Rockstar launched the PC Enhanced version of GTA 5 on 4th March 2025, and the upgrade is available for free for the players who own a PC copy of the game.

This upgrade comes with the requirement of a beefier PC. As a reminder: GTA V released on PC in April 2015 with requirements linked to the hardware at the time. Now, in early 2025, the Enhanced edition is asking for quite a bit more from your PC.
