The 'Wicked Witch of the West' hourglass from the 1939 film, "The Wizard of Oz," is being auctioned off by Heritage Auctions with a starting bid of $400,000.

Keiran Goddard's first novel, 'Hourglass,' covers an unnamed narrator's breakup story with sadness, specificity and an irresistibly weird kind of charm.

After making its Wizard of Oz debut, the same hourglass appeared in other MGM films, such as Babes on Broadway (1941), Diane (1956) and 7 Faces of Dr. Lao (1964).
