Hurst construction engineer Eric Starnes was hoping that the new Chisholm Aquatics Center would open in June, but the construction site was a sea of mud and standing water Friday from recent rains.

There are still places to cool off in Hurst this summer. People are heading to the Central Aquatics Center, and Heindel said that attendance is ranging from 500 to 800 visitors per day.

Some heating is expected to be continued in the 26,000 square foot, three story aquatic center to prevent it from deteriorating while it's closed, Hurst said. That level has yet to be determined ...

The aquatic center includes pools, a slide and meeting and exercise rooms. Utility bills are about $22,000 a month, officials said. It costs about $1,500 a day to run the facility, Hurst said.
