Southern Californians on Thursday celebrated Juneteenth, the federal holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. One of the biggest local events took place in Leimert Park.

Juneteenth celebrates the day in 1866 when the last slaves in Texas learned they'd been freed. Juneteenth celebrations happened across the country, including here in Los Angeles.
