When La Salle hosts Duquesne on Wednesday night, at the on-campus arena that should have been built at 20th and Olney long before, it will be the 1,000th game of Fran Dunphy’s head coaching career in college basketball.

Dunphy, a fixture of Philadelphia basketball for decades as the head coach for Penn, Temple, and then La Salle, is calling it a career.

La Salle coach Fran Dunphy, a Philadelphia basketball staple who previously coached at Temple and Penn, will retire at the end of the 2024-25 season, the university announced Thursday.
