Lee High School was first established in 1927 and was named after the Confederate General. The school integrated its faculty and staff in 1968. It desegregated in 1971.

When Lee High School opened to students in 1928, Jacksonville's public schools were segregated and Lee was only open to white students. The school did not fully integrate until 1971.
