After regaining consciousness, Chris Hemsworth's Thor decided to go to Nidavellir and forge a new weapon, Stormbreaker.

Thor sets off with Rocket Raccoon and Groot only to find the rings of Nidavellir frozen and the dwarves slaughtered but for one.

Traveling to Nidavellir, Thor, Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and Groot (Vin Diesel) were soon confronted by Eitri (Peter Dinklage), who had previously crafted Mjolnir — and Thanos’ Infinity ...

Thor went through a lot during Avengers: Infinity War, but his mission could have gone down much differently.

The Nidavellir scnes might have been the weaker portions of the arc at one point, but no longer. Pepe Larraz's visuals continue to impress, particularly during the Thor vs. Odin scenes.

It's certainly interesting that Thor's quest almost took that different shape, in part because it would have entirely cut the MCU's largest appearance of Nidavellir as well as Eitri (Peter Dinklage).

As Thor claimed ominously in “Infinity War,” the weapons of Nidavellir have side effects for those who “lack the strength to wield them.” ...

Of course, Nidavellir has its basis in Norse mythology, so it's not like Marvel came up with it for Thor: The Dark World and then used it in Infinity War, but it's still a fun reference in hindsight.
