Pondi (aka Penrith Beach) is scoring a $5.2 million investment to support it for the next two summers of community fun, education and outdoorsy experiences.

It’s no Bondi Beach, but Pondi, or Penrith Beach, has been a welcome relief to the city’s sweltering western suburbs.

Residents in an online community group have playfully dubbed the beach “Panly”, akin to Penrith Beach’s nickname “Pondi”.

Penrith beach will officially reopen today in Sydney’s west, in time for summer. More than 215-thousand people visited the beach from December to April this year.
