The Plaza Theatre in Garland will host "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" musical from May 29-June 7, 2026.

Faizan Zaki, age 13, spelled the word “eclaircissement” and collapsed on the floor in victory as confetti showered him at the 100th Scripps National Spelling Bee last week.

Faizan has been spelling for more than half his life. He competed in the 2019 bee as a 7-year-old, getting in through a wild-card program that has since been discontinued.

The first National Spelling Bee began 100 years ago in 1925. However, Thursday's winner marked the 110th champion due to an eight-way tie in 2019 and a two-way tie several times.
