The anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day falls on Thursday (May 8) but people are being encouraged to celebrate this Bank Holiday Monday (May 5), kicking off four days of commemoration.

MILLIONS across the UK are set to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day next week. Between Monday, May 5 and Thursday, May 8, people will commemorate the end of the Second World War in Europe.

VE Day occurred on May 8 1945, and commemorations will be held on Thursday next week ... The bunting is up in Peterborough ahead of commemorations of the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
