Sonya Massey’s family has reached a $10 million settlement more than six months after she was shot and killed in her Illinois home by a deputy responding to her call about a possible prowler.

Officials in Sangamon County, Illinois, have agreed to a $10 million settlement with the family of Sonya Massey –– a Black woman who was shot and killed by law enforcement in her home last year.

A Sangamon County deputy fatally shot Sonya Massey, 36, last year, after she called to report a prowler outside her home in Springfield, Ill. The former deputy has been charged with murder.
