Unfortunately for his breakaway compatriots on stage six of the Tour de France, the Irishman brought his typical breakaway A-game on Thursday. The result? A 40km solo victory in baking Vire Normandie.

Ireland's Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost) soloed to victory on stage 6 of the Tour de France, attacking out of the day-long breakaway with 42km to ride to his first Tour stage win, whilst Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) reclaimed yellow behind.

Irish pair Eddie Dunbar and Ben Healy were caught up in a crash with just under 6km to go in Friday's seventh stage of the Tour de France.

A fantastic day for Ireland on the Tour de France today saw Ben Healy take his first-ever Tour stage victory while compatriot Eddie Dunbar took his highest stage placing when he finished fourth on stage six in Normandy.

Ben Healy put on an incredible display, taking an amazing solo win after attacking an elite break with more than 40km remaining. Meanwwhile the battle for the yellow jersey came down to just one second!
