Elon Musk’s $1 million giveaway for voters who sign his free-speech and gun-rights petition falls into a gray area of election law, and legal experts are divided about whether the billionaire supporter of Donald Trump could be running afoul of prohibitions on paying people to register to vote.

Elon Musk promised to give away $1 million each day until November's election to someone who signs his online petition, with the first prize awarded at a PAC event supporting Donald Trump.

The potential issue stems from the fact that giveaway participants must be registered voters: It's illegal to pay people to register to vote.

Alcon Entertainment said it refused all permissions but Tesla apparently used artificial intelligence to “do it all anyway.”
