Lebanon's leadership has taken a political decision to give additional legal and social rights to Palestinian refugees in the country, Lebanese and Palestinian political sources told The National on Thursday.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam held talks in Beirut with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss ongoing efforts to enhance stability and security in Lebanon and ensure respect for Lebanese sovereignty, including in Palestinian refugee camps, a government readout said.

The Lebanese and Palestinian presidents agreed Wednesday to support Beirut's efforts to enforce the state's monopoly on weapons by disarming Palestinian factions, among other pacts.
