Monday’s demonstrations were far less raucous, with thousands peacefully attending a rally at City Hall and hundreds protesting outside a federal complex that includes a detention center where some immigrants are being held following workplace raids across the city.

President Donald Trump ordered another 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles, bringing the total number of deployed military forces to around 4,700 after 700 Marines were deployed earlier Monday.

The Pentagon mobilized 700 Marines and 2,000 more National Guard troops even as the president said the situation was “under control.” Gov. Gavin Newsom condemned the escalating response.
