Maruti Suzuki said on Friday it will install fast charging points in India's top 100 cities - one every 5 to 10 kilometers, and consider launching a battery rental service as it seeks to address infrastructure and cost challenges deterring consumers from buying electric cars.

VITARA is Suzuki's first global strategic battery electric vehicle, which has been long-awaited in India and many parts of the world.

Maruti Suzuki plans to become India's leading EV producer within a year, with production of the eVITARA starting in spring at its Gujarat plant. The company aims to export the model to over 100 countries.
