A Portland man died last weekend while hiking the Cooper Spur Trail area of Mount Hood. His body was recovered on Monday.

The body of a hiker reported overdue was recovered on Mount Hood on January 27, 2025. The hiker, identified as 38-year-old Robert Tveite of Portland, was reported missing by his family on January 26 after failing to return from a day hike.

On Wednesday, Portland police responded to a St. Johns home where a possibly armed suspect was barricaded inside. Also on Wednesday, a man who fired shots in Portland’s Old Town neighborhood spurred a police standoff after he commandeered a TriMet bus and refused to leave it, officials said.
