Santa Ana Unified School District will issue final layoff notices this week to 262 employees, including teachers, counselors and instructional coaches. The school board approved the decision in a 4-1 vote during a special meeting Monday night, May 19.

School board members cited declining enrollment and dried up pandemic relief funds as chief reasons for the mass layoffs while at the same time stressing efforts made to mitigate their impact on students.

Facing dwindling enrollment and a $154 million budget shortfall, Santa Ana Unified School District board members voted to lay off 262 employees – including teachers and counselors.
