Gerald Schneider, a longtime officer with the Sherman Police Department, died on Jan. 5 after battling cancer. The 47-year-old served as a Seargent for the Illinois Secretary State Police Capitol Division and the Sherman Police Department.

SHERMAN, Ill. (WICS) — The Sherman Police Department lost one of there own after a battle with cancer. Officer Gerald Schneider died Sunday night. Officer Schneider battled a serious cancer diagnosis and was surrounded by loved ones.

Longtime Sherman officer Gerald Schneider died Sunday night. The police department posted to Facebook that Schneider was surrounded by loved ones when he died following a cancer battle. "Our entire community mourns your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Schneider family," the police department posted.

Friends, family and law enforcement said goodbye on Tuesday to a Norman police officer who recently lost a decade-long fight with breast cancer. A memorial service was held in Norman for Master Police Officer Jenny Bryan who passed away last week at the age of 45.
