Michigan has more than 6,000 miles of state-designated snowmobile trails, and it’s all free to ride next weekend. From Friday to Sunday, Jan. 17-19, trail riding without snowmobile registration or a trail permit will be legal for both residents and visitors.

The west side of the state will see the brunt of a winter storm moving into Michigan this morning, but most of the Lower Peninsula will be affected.

A large winter system is carving its way across the United States today, bringing snow to places in the Southeast all the way up to Michigan.
