Buster Olney blatantly disrespects Tigers with Tarik Skubal report. Following their win on Sunday, the Tigers became the first team to 60 wins this season and have the best record
With Tarik Skubal on the mound on Sunday Night Baseball, and the Tigers holding the best record in baseball, the conversation surrounding the AL Cy Young winner somehow turned to Skubal's free agency in a year and a half. Here's what ESPN's Buster Olney had to say during the broadcast:
Reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal is having another impressive year, but he is only worried about his team winning.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — It was naturally a superb start by Tarik Skubal that resulted in a 2-1 Detroit Tigers win over the Texas Rangers on Sunday night that ended a season-worst six-game losing streak for the team with the best record in the major leagues. However, Skubal didn’t get credit for the victory.
Long story short, almost every batter he faces is overmatched and it shows. Except Corey Seager. For some reason, Seager owns him. The Texas shortstop collected two hits in his first two at-bats Sunday night to move his career ledger to 8-for-11 against Skubal.
Skubal showed why he's the favorite to win the Cy Young for a second straight year, striking out 11 with no walks Sunday night in Detroit's 2-1 victory over Texas. If the Cy Young indeed goes to him, he'll be the first AL pitcher to earn it in back-to-back seasons since Pedro Martinez's remarkable stretch with the Boston Red Sox in 1999 and 2000.
