Dec 6, 2022 · The polyphemus I encountered was big enough that I thought it was a little brown bat hanging from the ceiling, or a maybe a leaf caught up in spider web. Once I got closer it fanned its wings one time and I just got so excited! I had'nt seen a moth larger than a luna moth in person til that point. Still can't believe what happened after that.

Nov 4, 2022 · Antheraea polyphemus (Cramer, 1776) - Polyphemus Moth which is a native moth to NC. I saw this moth on my way to work and was able to snap a picture of it. They are normally spotted in the mountains so it is rare that I caught this critter on the sidewalk of uptown Charlotte. Friday, November 4 2022

Nov 8, 2018 · This species, Antheraea polyphemus, in particular is not endangered, but could potentially be less abundant in other places. I hope to "donate" to these places. I hope to "donate" to these places. Other species are endangered/extinct though, like Eacles imperialis in Massachusetts (and other states?).
