Humidity issue in HE furnace box - GreenBuildingAdvisor
Nov 28, 2024 · For a bandaid solution, we are thinking of removing a gasket in an unused 3″ penetration in the side of the cabinet to get air communication with lower humidity air in the basement. (The dehu intake is about 24″ inches away.) The downside if this is it will then use some basement air for combustion air.
New Tight House – Negative Pressure – Wood Stove Causing …
Nov 30, 2024 · 3 indoor mini split units, and a brand new Vermont Castings 2040 CAT wood stove, with fresh air intake system installed. The stove pipe is a straight shot up, no bends. Is single wall where pipe is exposed on the 1st floor and insulated pipe through 2nd floor chase, attic and up through the roof.
Air sealing, flashing ERV penetration - GreenBuildingAdvisor
Sep 3, 2024 · We are installing a Zehnder in a home where all the internal comfotubing was run but the intake and exhaust penetrations were not made prior to finishing. We’ll be cutting the penetrations (from the interior to the exterior) in the ICF foundation wall but I’m curious about the best approach for air sealing and flashing the penetration where ...
Providing Outdoor Combustion Air for a Wood Stove
Oct 14, 2013 · Not to put too fine a point on it, your air intake as implemented without a 1" clearance between the air intake duct and the Mento 1000 / Tescon / gasket/ plywood /PVC at the air intake is also a code violation (unless it's more than 5 running feet of duct away from where it hooks up to the stove or insert) : "R1006.3 Clearance.
Integrating an ERV or HRV into a Forced-Air System
May 31, 2023 · Zehnder uses a MERV 13 on the outdoor intake side, and has an option (if using their distribution system) for adding a MERV-15 filter on the room supply side. Presumably this arrangement would cause the (more expensive) MERV-15 to last considerably longer.
Are Powered Attic Ventilators Ever a Good Idea?
Sep 9, 2021 · The problems you outlined only occur when an appropriate amount of intake ventilation is not provided and/or the powered vents are oversized for the space. Additionally, a vapor barrier of some sort must be installed (kraft paper backed batt insulation, with the paper side down) between the ceiling joists and your attic flooring (if present).
Radiant Floor and Heat Pump Capacity - GreenBuildingAdvisor
Dec 5, 2023 · If you're using a manifold, each loop would have the same 6 PSI, so all the loops would run at the same GPM if they're the same length. That shouldn't be a big deal, the 8" loops will overperform a bit. You'd sum the GPM for the loops. So for 12 runs you'd need 14.4 GPM @ 6 PSI. So probably a 1-1/2" pipe to the manifold.
Urban Rustic: Installing an ERV - GreenBuildingAdvisor
Mar 12, 2019 · The average heat loss to the range hood will be below the worst case too, but even if it's 10kBTU/day, that's 6% of the total heat loss for the house. Again, I might consider it an option if there was an easy way to install and use an airtight gate on the hood and the makeup air intake, as it's the air leakage in the house I'm more concerned about.
Gasket thickness for airtight drywall - GreenBuildingAdvisor
Jun 16, 2012 · We are planning to install Denarco Sure-Seal gaskets for airtight drywall. Wondering what would be a thick enough gasket, that wouldn't cause problems when installing the 4/4 (3/4") thick wood trim? Would 1/4" thick be enough? From what I have gathered reading online, 3/8" x 3/8" is usually used. Have there been any tests done to determine the best …
