North Lawndale is one of the 77 community areas of the city of Chicago, Illinois, located on its West Side. The area contains the K-Town Historic District, the Foundation for Homan Square, the Homan Square interrogation facility, and the greatest concentration of greystones in the city.

North Lawndale is one of 10 priority communities selected as a part of the initial phase of Chicago’s INVEST South/West commercial corridor improvement strategy.

The Lawndale area is a neighborhood that rests on the outskirts of the West Side of Chicago, bordering the suburbs. The area features spacious real estate, often with large front or back yards. You can head to the Downtown area by taking the Green or Blue Line.

Originally just called Lawndale, the North Lawndale community area was named by a real estate developer in the late 1800s. Its name was meant to evoke a suburban feel, distant from the noisy city. However, North Lawndale became a neighborhood busy with the flurry of nearby industry.

In the past, North Lawndale boomed as a haven for refugees from the Great Fire of 1871 and then bustled as Chicago's Jewish ghetto. The neighborhood's landscape was divided among two-flat apartments, Douglas Park, and massive industrial complexes.
