In contrast, the Toyokagami specifically says Hideyoshi started out taking care of Nobunaga's shoes when Nobunaga went hunting.

I find it weird to say that Yasuke does not ethnically fit in the setting when he was historically IN the setting. LIKE HE FIT THERE ON A METAPHYSICAL LEVEL. A black man was brought to Japan. That is a historical fact. You are saying that Yasuke the historical figure does not 'fit' in the setting that he was historically and factually located in.

May 23, 2024 · Up until Yasuke's time there was no concept of Samurai but there was the concept of nobles with occupations, but again there's no proof that Yasuke was ever given that title. all profesionnal warrior serving a lord were considered samurai for that period.

Yasuke was at least in Nobunaga's retinue that attended to him. I'd say that at the very least Nobunaga regarded him as samurai. Correct. And this is where most of the problems stem from. Yasuke, who served Nobunaga as a maiden, was to be treated as a formal "samurai" like other vassals. And this is where Lockley is being disingenuous.

May 18, 2024 · samurai is just a title and during the Sengoku period that Yasuke was in Japan for, basically anyone could become a samurai - an attendant, retainer, even something like a paige could also be classed as a samurai as it was more about a socioeconomic class than the much stricter definitions of damiyo and samurai of the later Edo period.

If they said get to play as Yasuke a real historical figure in edo Japan, then yeah, but the fact they want to paint him as the first black Samurai is the issue here.
